LIFE OF PI — BOOK COVER DESIGNS
As Pi struggled to survive being shipwrecked at sea throughout the story, he greatly depended on the Bengal tiger he was alongside with as a means of survival.

These book cover jacket designs represent Pi's dependency on Richard Parker, as well as Pi and the tiger being one and the same. The goal was to create a cover that both visually captured the message of the story and would invite the reader into the book.
PROCESS
I began with a number of thumbnail sketches that could visually represent Pi's unique journey alongside a Bengal tiger at sea in a less generic way. I explored combining elements of the ocean with elements of the tiger, such as creating the tiger’s face from rippling water and stripes from the clouds in the sky, to create less cliché imagery.
LIFE OF PI — FILM TITLE SEQUENCE
Using the main concept of one of the jacket designs, I then created a title sequence for the
film adaptation of the book.

The lifeboat continues to faithfully drift in hopes of reaching land, throughout all natural and unnatural odds at sea. The sequence became a 2D stop motion animation, with the movements of the graphics and typography being of a liquid quality to reflect the movie and pull the viewer into this unique journey at sea.
